(no subject)

Just a little language titbit for any of my linguistically inclined flist (and [livejournal.com profile] jazzymegster I'm primarily thinking of you here). The link is to the Language Log and has refs to chinese language/pinyin and inappropriate translations. The frequent bemusing use of the word "fuck" by no means brought any of my flist to mind. Heh.

I get the Language Log on my flist now, and boy, does it make me feel inadequate/confused/wildly interested/frustrated.

"Fuck to fry"

That sounds... dangerous. Painful, possibly. :-D

It does , doesn't it? lol. Do even the most ardent S&M folks actually using *frying* as a form of...well, of ANYTHING to do with the said fucking?? Hee.

Wheeeee! Dude. Just...dude!

Funnily enough, I saw on your flist thing on your user info that you get this as a syndicated feed thing, and I was wondering what it was. I did click to see, but didn't really look (I either forgot the tab was open, or closed it accidentally).

Anyway, thanks :)

No probs :) I kept meaning to prod youi and say, dude have you seen this Language place, because I thought you might be interestedm but it took this particular entry to push me into it!

Prior to getting this feed, I had a "word of the day" thing...and man, was it boring. This LL feed can be challenging, funny and screws with my brain. lol.

Well, as I type this, I am waiting for its info page to load so I can friend it. Also, I shall pass on the link to someone on MY flist who I think might be interested in it.

Yeah - words of the day, unless they're outlandish words, can be boring (sad fact of life). But from reading that one post you linked to, this place looks interesting (also, if this amuses you much, check out www.engrish.com - it's more Japanese-English, but still along the lines of mistranslations being amusing).

:)
