So, Torchwood is here.

MMMmmmmm mmmmmmmm! I have just finished watching the first two episodes and I was impressed. I am likely to try and keep up with this show (I reckon. Well, we'll see how it goes.)

Luckily, I have just got SKY tv, so I can get the requisite BBC 3 channel. Doctor Who I was never desperately into, indeed I was never enamoured of Nine. Ten I think is cute and practically puppyish in his enthusiasm, but I've said it before and will say it again: I often watched Doctor Who out of an odd sense of nostalgia and patriotism. Not enough to hook, but enough to make me want to give Torchwood a try. Also, you know: Captain Jack is HOT. (note to Meg: Heh! Another JACK IS HOT!)

And yes, Jack is still hot, swishy coat an' all. I liked it. It was certainly grittier than DW (I thought), with some humour, and the "everygirl" character of Gwen was good, likeable and down to earth (no pun intended. Well, maybe just a little one.) She contrasted nicely with the alien savvy Jack. I won't go into episode details to much so as not to spoil anyone (also, it's getting late and I don't have the impetus to precis) but there is definately more sex in this show! Or at least in the second ep. I'm assuming that it won't continue so sex heavy in subbsequent eps, as the plot was woven around the impetus to do the wild thing. Wild alien sex, uh? But it ends up not being as cliche as it sounds, there is pain, hurt and a regular reminder of the human cost.

There is also, to take a lighter note, the implication that Captain Jack Harkness is an utter stud in the sack. Or the wall, or the kitchen table. One of the characters offered the opinion that's he's gay, another contradicted that and then a third came up with the phrase, "He'll shag anything that's goregous." Beeyootiful. Heh.

Anyways, the show was attractive, energetic, sexy and has lots of potential. If you get a chance, watch it.

*sigh* I must wait hours before I can see this. I have sadness and yet excitement. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Savour the excitement, heh. And then savour Captain Jack in his swishy coat. I felt more in tune with this show than I did with DW. I mean, DW was adorable...but this was...well, partly I think I just believed it more.

I wondered if it could be partly to do with the Welsh accents, as they are so familiar and down to earth, but it is balanced by Jack's sexy US voice so maybe not. Maybe it's just becuae it IS based on Earth, rather than planet hopping and really outlandish aliens. Maybe it's because it really does feel like it's a show aimed at an adult audience rather than a "family" one. Certainly, I can imagine some of Ep 2 being a tad disturbing to some folks.

I hope you enjoy it, too :) I shall look out for any comments from your side of the pond with interest :)
