A sort of follow up to my last post, which was the seahorse bookmark. I mentioned at the end of it that I was thinking of cupcakes, and lo, we have a cupcake book mark!
cupcakes bookmark

The same procedure was followed as for the seahorse. In fact, so much so, that I'm just going to practically copy paste that paragraph, lol:

The original drawing was scanned in to the pc, then printed out onto heavyweight paper, and laminated with 250micron matt laminate. Then, I hand cut the laminate around the image, and threaded some ribbon and beads through a punched hole at the top. Although, I may swap and change about the ribbons (I bought several colours in satin and gauze to experiment with). I have used two lengths of satin and one the gauze, here. EIther the combined weight is too thick, or the holes in these beads are smaller, because it took me ages to thread the beads onto the ribbon. The seahorse had two gauze and one satin and I'm sure it was easier!

Anyway, the result is a bookmark which is approx. 12 or 13 cms in length, the same sort of length as the seahorse.

Once again, I'm not sure the drawing comes across here terribly well (keep clicking through till you get to a slightly bigger version), as it was a quick photo. It's done with Faber Castell pencils, and I actually do like it in real life, lol! And, although, I'm not sure you get cupcakes piled on top if one another in reality, I just liked the idea of it!

Thank you! I had soooo many reference pics, and I actually imagined I could smell cupcakes baking at one point! Of course, they weren't...sigh. Lol.

Oh wow, that is really nice. Delectable! The beads and ribbon go perfectly! Once again, envious of your pencil-fu!

Hee, thank you! Pencil-fu, I like that term! I bought at least nine or ten different colours of ribbon in one metre lengths (ribbonz iz pretty!). This combo is the first one that I went with to try with the beads, so I'm very chuffed you think it works. :)

Oh gosh, those are wonderful! If you were to go into selling them, I'd totes buy some. If only to stare at and wonder how come you can make pencils work like that (I've come to the conclusion that I'm not patient enough).

Thank you! I've been doing more drawing recently than ever! What with the redundancy and all, I decided to try and use my pencil-fu (heh) for good, as it were, lol. I'm even (gulp) making a website for doing portraits and such. The seahorse and cupcakes was me experimenting and extending myself!

And yes, pencils can take a bit of time. But I've always had patience when it comes to doing this kind of detailed work. I once used to work with a dip pen and inks, and did several pics in a pointillism sort of style. Dot, dot, dot, dot, dot....lol.

Edited to say: If I do end up doing some selling of these, I'll let you know!

You're totally welcome!

Ooh, website! I shall direct people in its direction once it's up and running if you don't mind? I always like sharing art I like so...yeah...

Oh man, dip pen and ink. I went on a splurge and bought about ten different nibs (because they look so cool!) and some ink, but I haven't dared use it yet because once the mark's there, it's there (and yet I doodle in biro. WTF, brain?). You must have the patience of a saint!

Awesome-sauce! I shall keep my eyes open! :)

Hee, me too! I was given two cupcake books for Christmas, so I had an inbuilt repository of references pics!

Glad you liked it! Thank you!
